Every word drips with self-importance, the heavy sighs… the indigo girls rely on cliches even for their breaths, and in this record the most yet. The question is whether Radiohead would bother to sue the Indigo Girls for copying, almost bar for bar, the melody, phrasing and progressions from “Creep” in this record’s final track, “True Romantic”?

Some of the other reviews here have surprised me–I was very disappointed in Indigo Girls’ latest. The music and the songs are OK, with two or three great ones and the rest just mediocre, but the two-CD pack is just a gimmick, and not a very good one. Face it, the Girls are pretty much acoustic ALL the time so I heard very little difference between the two CDs. But what irked me the most was the overall length of the music. I realize the price was relatively lower than the usual for two CDs, but we got 36 minutes of music, twice. In this day and age, 36 minutes is an insult. Come on, Girls…you can do better than that.

Great and powerful CD from very skilled artists. It arrived in good condition as the seller promised.

The Indigo Girls are my absolute favorite band-anyone who really knows me knows I prob. am their biggest fan. Although I don’t play any instruments or sing (other then belting in my car), I would consider myself musically inclined in some way I suppose (in that I hear things in songs that most other people miss (an instrument sound, something they said, the arrangement of the song). Anyway, this is why I love the Indigo Girls-their music/songwriting is a step above most artists (although a lot or singer/songwriters aren’t artists for sure).

Sometimes their songs can be just another song, but sometimes they write masterpeices… just a few from their previous records-Collecting You, This Train Revised, You and Me of the 10,000 wars, Watershed, Southland in the Springtime, Blood and Fire, The Wood Song, Chickenman, Get out the Map, to name a only a few.

Music can be just music but sometimes it can be an incredible peice of art-can take you places very high, very low, reach places deep into you. Emily is the best songwriter I have ever come across. I envy her use of words and wish I had this talent.

Okay so their new cd is very good. Does it have any masterpeices? Is their anything that is brilliantly written? You decide.

Most of the songs are fun and very well written. I definately like it and think it is worth the money. But they haven’t produced a cd yet that wasn’t worth the money and then some.

This is a great example of just how far musically and lyrically the Indies have come in their near 25 years of doing their thing. A wonderful album, filled with not only the great intricate guitar work for which Emily is known, but with other terrific instruments that the girls have picked up and worked on learning in the last oh 15 or so years. Amy plays some mandolin, as does Emily, They both play banjo, they both play electric and accoustic guitars, there is some more “obscure” instruments thrown in as well.

Lyrically they are as thoughful and thought provoking as usual. I love this album because the feel constantly changes. One minute you are at the beach with Emily, in the next you are driving down a dark county road with Amy. If the lyrics don’t move you, then there is something wrong with your hearing. I believe this is the best album in probably 10 years and I have all of them and like each one for different things. I have the double cd version of this album, and love both cds equally. It is nice to get a different feel to the tunes.

I hope the IG keeps doing what they are known for-thought provoking and thoughtful tunes and lyrics. Now if we could just get Amy to use that Mountain Dulcimer I know she was given, I shudder to think how beautifully the voices could be with that as a simple acoustic accompanyment.
